I started quilting during recuperation from major surgery.  My mother had started several years earlier and enjoyed it.  I needed a project that would exercise my mind, but not be too strenuous on my body.  With a basic knowledge of sewing from making clothing in high school, it was a natural extension.  After the recuperation period, I tried very hard to turn off my interest in quilting projects because I didn’t know any other young people who were involved in this wonderful activity.  Eventually, I gave in and accepted what had become a need to work with fabric in this way.  Since that point, my mom and I each have worked on our own projects in addition to collaborating on others.

The challenge is to select the correct colors and fabric designs to convey exactly what I’m thinking; sometimes I’m surprised with the end result.  The best part is when others view the finished piece and react!  As in other arts, everyone sees a little differently.
